Rules for poker

Our friendly professional croupiers will be on hand to explain to you the rules and how to play if you are unsure, and to make sure you all have a great time. We can cater for different types of poker game but usually play Texas hold 'em with a professional poker table and chips.

 

Texas hold 'em

This is a community based poker game where each player uses the five community cards that are dealt on to the table with their own two cards that they keep secret in their hand. The general idea is to place a bet against the value of your own hand being the highest at the table. The game goes around the table with each player placing their bet in to the middle.

The dealer

 

A dealer button is used to represent the player in the dealer position; the dealer rotates clockwise after each hand, changing the position of the dealer and blinds. The blinds are the players that are forced to make a bet each round and are called the small and big blind, the small blind sitting on the left of the dealer and the big blind to the left of the small blind.

The betting rounds

Each player is dealt two cards to their hand, the three "flop" cards are then dealt face up on to the table. This is then followed by a second betting round. The third betting round begins with another community card called "the turn" laid face up next to the "flop" cards. The fourth betting round reveals "the river" which is the last community card to be drawn and placed next to "the turn". The players then play for a "showdown" of cards. The players will bet their money on the strength of their hands using all of the cards on the table and the two in their hands.
